Privacy Policy

This policy explains the limited information handled by Town of Hamburg Residents Directory and the choices available to visitors. The service is a private reference to records and historical collections connected with Town of Hamburg, Erie County, and New York. It does not require an account, maintain a personal profile for visitors, or hold government records. Public records linked from this service remain under the control of the offices that created them.

Information You Send Directly

A name, phone number, or address entered into a search form is sent to the outside provider that supplies the result flow. Town of Hamburg Residents Directory does not keep a copy of those searches on its own servers. If you contact us, we receive the information included in your message and use it to answer that message.

Automatic Technical Information

Routine hosting logs can record an IP address, browser type, pages requested, and time of access. We review aggregate activity to maintain the service and understand which reference pages are used. Cookies or comparable tools may support basic analytics and, where used, advertising measurement.

How Limited Data Is Used

The limited information described above is used to run the service, address technical issues, measure overall traffic, and improve reference material. We do not sell visitor lists or create individual visitor profiles from search activity.

Outside Links and Search Providers

Links can lead to Erie County, Town of Hamburg, New York State, library, archive, and third-party search resources. Their own privacy terms control information submitted after you leave this service. The same applies to sponsored search results supplied by an outside company.

Service Providers and Legal Requests

Hosting and support providers may process the routine logs needed to operate this service. Analytics or advertising partners may receive the automatic data described above. Information is disclosed when valid legal process requires it or when disclosure is otherwise required by law.

Safeguards and Retention

The service uses an encrypted connection, and logs are retained only for the operational purposes described here. There are no visitor accounts, passwords, or user profiles maintained by Town of Hamburg Residents Directory for an intruder to access.

Visitors Under 18

This service is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from people under 18. If you believe that a minor sent information to us, contact us so it can be removed.

Your Information Choices

You may ask to access, correct, or delete personal information that this service keeps about you. Because we retain very little, a request normally involves checking the contact mailbox and relevant server logs. Use the Contact page to make that request. New York's official sources reviewed did not identify an enacted universal data-broker deletion statute that removes a person from every public-record system.

Records held by Town of Hamburg, Erie County, or New York agencies are different. New York's Freedom of Information Law, Public Officers Law Article 6, §§84–90, including §§87 and 89(3)(a), governs agency records subject to its exemptions. Section 89(3)(a) requires a grant, denial, acknowledgment, or a statement that the agency lacks the record within five business days, with an approximate response date when more time is needed. A correction or removal request for an official record must go to the custodian that created it; FOIL does not override confidential vital, court, voter, or address-protection rules.

New York protections are record-specific. Election Law §3-220 withholds driver-license and non-driver ID numbers, Social Security numbers, and facsimile numbers from voter-registration records, while §3-103(5) limits non-election use. The Address Confidentiality Program protects qualifying participants' physical addresses through a substitute-address system under Executive Law §108 and 19 NYCRR Part 134. These protections are not the same as an opt-out from every public record.
